Mouse NGAL - a marker for nephrotoxicity and kidney damage in pre-clinical trials

With the Mouse NGAL ELISA KIT, urine, plasma or serum samples can be analysed in a standard laboratory with conventional ELISA equipment. All components are stored at 4ºC and all incubations are performed at room temperature. The kit contains ready-to-use reagents and a pre-coated 96-well ELISA plate, which greatly reduces the hands-on time. The simple test protocol permits high reproducibility with a total assay time under 4 hours.

Applicability

Mice are among the most frequently used laboratory animals and often used in early research and development of potential drug treatments and the Mouse NGAL model has previously shown great promise. The Mouse NGAL ELISA Kit complements the NGAL product line and serves as an alternative to the rat model when assessing kidney damage as a result of nephrotoxic or ischemic events.

Therefore NGAL measurement in mice could prove to be of considerable value in the preclinical evaluation of new pharmacological products, as it is much cheaper and easier to determine NGAL than to carry out the typical microscopic examination of the kidney itself. The Mouse NGAL test can thus be used early in the development of new treatments for kidney damage, to detect nephrotoxic side effects of new drugs, and for basic science research on kidney injury and kidney diseases.

The Mouse NGAL ELISA Kit allows for the determination of rises in mouse NGAL concentrations and hence the extent of renal injury, including nephrotoxic injury. For example in the following settings:
